The Headwaters Award honors exceptional leaders whose vision, generosity, and dedication have helped shape Paddle Antrim and the Chain of Lakes Water Trail. Each year, we celebrate individuals who embody the spirit, leadership, and commitment that allow our mission to Protect, Connect, and Educate to thrive.
Each year, Paddle Antrim selects awardees who have demonstrated extraordinary support, leadership, or innovation in advancing our mission. Recipients are recognized at our annual Sustainer Donor Gathering and on this page, creating a lasting tribute to their impact.
Jim and his wife Diana believed in Paddle Antrim when it was still just an idea — a startup with big dreams and no track record. As entrepreneurs, they understood the risks and took a chance on our vision. Their faith, encouragement, and generosity gave us the foundation to grow. Jim’s belief in Paddle Antrim’s mission has helped shape the organization from the very beginning.
Megan was one of Paddle Antrim’s founding board members. Her ability to bring people together, her vision for what Paddle Antrim and the water trail could become, and her relentless drive to get things done shaped our culture from day one. Megan’s leadership and spirit continue to ripple through everything we do.
Short’s Brewing Company has been a part of our story from the beginning. From the early Short’s to Short’s Paddle — now the Paddle Antrim Festival — to their ongoing support as sponsors and volunteers, Short’s has been a steadfast partner. From Matt Drake, past Short’s COO and our first board president, to Joe, Scott, Christa, and Rachel who continue their commitment, we are grateful for all they have done to help Paddle Antrim thrive.
Patti played a critical role in our early years as a founding board member and treasurer. As Executive Director of the Bellaire Chamber at the time, her deep community connections and guidance were invaluable in helping us grow. Her support and wisdom made a lasting impact on our organization.
Mary has been a champion for Paddle Antrim since day one. As Executive Director of the East Jordan Chamber and a founding board member, she served as board director and secretary for nine years. Her leadership, strategic thinking, and advocacy for the Upper Chain helped shape who we are today.
