Paddle Antrim is dedicated to connecting youth with our waterways while emphasizing the importance of water safety. This week, Paddle Antrim had the pleasure of taking Ellsworth School middle schoolers and high schoolers kayaking on Ellsworth Lake. For some students, this was their first time experiencing the joy of being on the water. These sessions were designed to introduce the students to water safety, basic paddling strokes, and the joy of being out on the water. Students learned how to wear a properly fitting life jacket and other safety considerations like weather and more.
This outing was made possible thanks to a generous donation earlier this year from Rotary Camps and Services, which provided Paddle Antrim with a fleet of kayaks, paddles, and life jackets. The event with Ellsworth Schools marked the first use of this equipment for the season, highlighting the impact of community support on our programs.
Throughout the summer, Paddle Antrim is hosting kids’ kayaking classes in Ellsworth. These classes, tailored for children aged 7-13, offer a fantastic introduction to the sport of kayaking. With a focus on fun and water safety, students learn through a variety of games and exploration. Our experienced, certified instructors teach basic skills aimed at empowering kids to feel comfortable and confident on the water. The classes are conducted in traditional youth-sized sea kayaks.
