You’ll learn about what kayaks work best for what conditions and other paddling best practices. Learn how to make the kayak go where you want it to go and basic safety skills needed on the water. You will have the opportunity to learn what to do when (not if) you end in the water\, out of your boat. This class is great for beginners but anyone who has never received formal instruction will benefit. \nBring:  \n\nKayak (whatever you use is ok)\nPaddle\nVest-Style PFD (life jacket – must be inherently bouyant\, no inflatables)\nClothes/rash guard that can get wet – polypropylene\, polyester\, coolmax\, etc…. anything but cotton!\nFleece and raincoat (if cool weather)\nWater shoes preferred over sandals. DESCRIPTION:Grab your paddleboard\, kayak or paddle craft of choice for an amazing evening paddle through the St. Clair Lake – Six Mile Lake Natural Area.  This hour long slow paddle will begin at St. Clair Lake DNR Boat Access Site (9400 6 Mile Lake Rod) at 6:30 pm to check in and we will launch promptly as a group at 6:45 pm. \nThe St. Clair Lake – Six Mile Lake Natural Area is a 255 acre preserve co-owned and co-managed by the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and the Little Traverse Conservancy . Learn more here. \nAs with all Paddle Antrim community paddles\, we encourage all ages and types of paddle crafts to join us. These paddles last approximately one hour on the water\, are free\, and no pre-registration is required.  All paddlers must bring their own craft (kayak\, canoe\, or paddleboard)\, paddle\, and pfd (life jacket). SUMMARY:Paddle Stewardship Training
DESCRIPTION:Your local conservation partners at CAKE CISMA\, Kalkaska Conservation District\, and Paddle Antrim are excited to announce a Paddle Stewardship training focused on invasive plants! We will discuss why invasive plants are an issue for Northwest Michigan\, how to identify them\, report them\, and finally how to make sure you are keeping our waterways beautiful for the next paddlers. Our training will consist of: \n-June 22 | 9 – 10:30 AM | online training via Zoom (link to follow)\n-June 23 | 9 – 11 AM | a follow up on-the-water event at the Torch River DNR Access Site (Bring your paddle craft and life jacket!) \nWe are looking forward to sharing information and getting you all out on the water. After the training\, we encourage all participants to help us identify and report invasive plants on the Manistee River. We will have a sign-up available to identify the section you want to paddle our trainings and report the invasive plants you find. This effort will help our teams in the conservation of Northern Michigan’s waterways! Please reach out to staff from any of the partner organizations with questions before the events! \nParticipants will be expected to bring their own kayak/canoe/paddleboard as well as paddle and life jacket. Life jackets must be worn at all times while out o the water. DESCRIPTION:Grab your paddleboard\, kayak\, or canoe and join Paddle Antrim for an amazing paddle on Ellsworth Lake as part of the Ellsworth/Atwood Pig Roast. This slow paddle will begin at River Park (6625 Bridge St). Meet at 1:30 pm to check in and we will launch promptly as a group at 1:45 pm. Paddle Antrim encourage all ages and types of paddle crafts to join us on the water for these slow paddles. These paddles last approximately one hour on the water\, are free\, and no pre-registration is required.  All paddlers must bring their own craft/boat\, paddle\, and a pfd (life jacket). As with all Paddle Antrim events\, pfds must be properly worn at all times. Grass River’s naturalist will be there to share the natural history of the river. This slow paddle is scheduled for  2 hours. All ages are welcome but children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult out on the water. \nDIRECTIONS TO WILLOW DAY PARK: From Bellaire\, drive south on M-88 just over 2 miles to Brake Rd. Turn right on Brake Rd and drive about one mile to White Birch Lane. DESCRIPTION:The 26th Annual Quiet Adventures Virtual Symposium will come to attendees over five evenings in February. Each evening offers two parallel sessions with new speakers every 30-minutes. The first two presentations begin at 7:00pm and the final two speakers begin at 9:00pm. \nThe 2021 event starts on Tuesday\, February 16 and will continue on Thursday\, February 18. Presentations will come to you the following week on February 23 and 25. DESCRIPTION:Our kids class is a great way to introduce your child to the sport of kayaking. Designed with fun and water safety as primary goals\, we teach students through a variety of games and exploration. Our experienced\, certified instructors teach basic strokes\, directional control\, how to get in and out of the kayak safely\, and what to do when you capsize. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an informative\, energizing and very experiential learning session as we explore and discover the best solutions to when (not if) we end up in the water\, out of our boats. This course is geared for ALL levels of paddlers. \nCourse Covers: 30 Second Kayak Rescue\, Hand of God\, Cowboy\, Paddle Float\, Scoop\, and You Tell Me. This course is geared to ALL level of paddlers. \nParticipants must be at least 14 years old and meet the ACA eligibility requirements. Participants must bring the following equipment: sit-in kayak with 2 bulkheads\, paddle\, pfd (life jacket).  Also please bring if you have a spray skirt\, bilge pump\, and a paddle float. Paddles and Pedals in Bellaire rents these kayaks or contact Paddle Antrim to see if the instructor may have an appropriate kayak for you. \nAll classes are taught by ACA (American Canoe Association) certified instructors. Class size is limited with a 5:1 maximum student to teacher ratio. DESCRIPTION:Paddlers 18+ years are invited to join Michigan Sea Grant and partners for a one-day program about protecting water trails from aquatic invasive species (AIS). Participants will learn about the dangers of AIS\, how to identify them\, and how to report sightings through the Midwest Invasive Species Information Network. Then head out for an hour paddle on a nearby water trail. Kayaks\, gear\, and lunch provided! \nThis is a free workshop thanks to Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program with coordinating assistance from Paddle Antrim and CAKE CISMA. \nThis is one of twelve workshops being offered around the state.
