By attending the 3-part Weather Forecasting For On The Water webinar series you will gain an understanding of basic weather principles and learn how to use a variety of forecasting resources. \nThe skills learned during the Weather Forecasting For On The Water series will improve your trip planning and reduce the likelihood that you will be exposed to uncomfortable or hazardous weather conditions. Mark is a 2006 graduate of the Penn State University Certificate of Achievement in Weather Forecasting\, a two-year program that develops skills in general\, tropical\, and severe weather forecasting. He is the president of LakeErieWX LLC\, a company dedicated to providing marine weather education and forecasting resources for recreational boaters (www.lakeeriewx.com). Mark publishes a marine weather blog and teaches basic forecasting seminars to recreational boaters during the off-season. He has served as the Race Meteorologist for the Bayview Mackinac Race since 2014. SUMMARY:2021 Paddle Antrim Festival
DESCRIPTION:Registration opening in June!! \nThe Paddle Antrim Festival celebrates the amazing waterways and communities of Northern Michigan. The Festival\, always the second weekend after Labor Day\, includes a two-day paddle event through the Chain of Lakes Water Trail. This choose your own adventure paddle provides the opportunity for you to paddle one or both days and decide how far to travel. There are exits strategically placed along the route so you may go anywhere from 7 miles to all 42 miles. \nWe look forward to welcoming paddlers to the Chain of Lakes Water Trail for the 6th Paddle Antrim Festival on September 16-18\, 2021.  The Festival will look a little different this year and registration will be limited to 150 paddlers at this time.  We are working on details and more information will be available in the coming weeks\, with registration opening in June.  \nThursday September 16th paddlers can check in. Friday paddlers will begin in Ellsworth and paddle up to 15 miles through Central Lake to Bellaire.  Saturday participants can paddle up to 27 miles from Bellaire to Elk Rapids.  \nYour safety and the safety of our staff and volunteers is very important to us. Due to COVID-19\, we will be complying with all CDC\, State\, and local guidelines (e.g. masks and social distancing).

This class is great for beginners but anyone who has never received formal instruction will benefit. \nBring:  \n\nKayak (whatever you use is ok)\nPaddle\nPfd (life jacket)\nClothes/rash guard that can get wet – polypropylene\, polyester\, coolmax\, etc…. anything but cotton!\nFleece and raincoat (if cool weather)\nWater shoes preferred over sandals. Must stay on feet\, no flip flops.\nDry clothes to change into\nWater bottle\nSunscreen\n\nIf you do not have a kayak\, please contact us prior to registration and our instructors may be able to accommodate.  \nAll classes are taught by ACA (American Canoe Association) certified instructors. \nMaximum student: teacher ratio is 5:1\nAges: 14 and up\n$45/person \nREQUIREMENTS:\n– Participants must wear life jackets while on the water. \n– Waivers are required. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW! \nThis all-day class is for those who may have taken one of our Kayaking Essentials (or another class) and want to continue to work on their skills and learn new skills. We will go over basic stroke techniques including bracing and edging. We will work on rescue techniques including self rescues and t-rescues. \nBecause a portion of the day will be spent on rescues\, a kayak with bulkheads in the bow and stern is necessary. DESCRIPTION:Your local conservation partners at CAKE CISMA\, Kalkaska Conservation District\, and Paddle Antrim are excited to announce a Paddle Stewardship training focused on invasive plants! We will discuss why invasive plants are an issue for Northwest Michigan\, how to identify them\, report them\, and finally how to make sure you are keeping our waterways beautiful for the next paddlers. Our training will consist of: \n-June 22 | 9 – 10:30 AM | online training via Zoom (link to follow)\n-June 23 | 9 – 11 AM | a follow up on-the-water event at the Torch River DNR Access Site (Bring your paddle craft and life jacket!) \nWe are looking forward to sharing information and getting you all out on the water. After the training\, we encourage all participants to help us identify and report invasive plants on the Manistee River. We will have a sign-up available to identify the section you want to paddle our trainings and report the invasive plants you find. This effort will help our teams in the conservation of Northern Michigan’s waterways! DESCRIPTION:Grab your paddleboard\, kayak\, or canoe and join Paddle Antrim for an amazing paddle on Ellsworth Lake as part of the Ellsworth/Atwood Pig Roast. This slow paddle will begin at River Park (6625 Bridge St). Meet at 1:30 pm to check in and we will launch promptly as a group at 1:45 pm. Paddle Antrim encourage all ages and types of paddle crafts to join us on the water for these slow paddles. These paddles last approximately one hour on the water\, are free\, and no pre-registration is required.  All paddlers must bring their own craft/boat\, paddle\, and a pfd (life jacket). As with all Paddle Antrim events\, pfds must be properly worn at all times. All ages are welcome but children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult out on the water. \nAll paddlers must complete a paddling event waiver prior to participation. Grass River’s naturalist will be there to share the natural history of the river. This slow paddle is scheduled for  2 hours. We will begin at Willow Day Park at 6:30 pm to check in and we will launch promptly as a group at 6:45 pm. \nPaddle Antrim encourage all ages and types of paddle crafts to join us on the water for these slow paddles. This paddle will last approximately two hours on the water\, is free\, and no pre-registration is required. All paddlers must bring their own craft/boat\, paddle\, and pfd (life jacket). As with all Paddle Antrim events\, pfds must be properly worn at all times. All ages are welcome but children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult out on the water. \nDIRECTIONS TO WILLOW DAY PARK: From Bellaire\, drive south on M-88 just over 2 miles to Brake Rd. Turn right on Brake Rd and drive about one mile to White Birch Lane. Turn right on White Birch Lane (it does say private road but please continue) and Willow Day Park is almost immediately on the left. \nAll paddlers must fill out a paddling event waiver prior to participation. Click here to review and sign the waiver. \nPaddle Antrim is taking precautions to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 and will follow all CDC/State/local guidelines. DESCRIPTION:The 26th Annual Quiet Adventures Virtual Symposium will come to attendees over five evenings in February. Each evening offers two parallel sessions with new speakers every 30-minutes. The first two presentations begin at 7:00pm and the final two speakers begin at 9:00pm. \nThe 2021 event starts on Tuesday\, February 16 and will continue on Thursday\, February 18. Presentations will come to you the following week on February 23 and 25.
