This is the next step for paddlers who have taken the Introduction to Kayaking or paddled for a while and are comfortable exiting your boat. The class focuses on boat control, safety and building confidence. Skills include basic rescues, edging, and beginning bracing.
Course Covers: boat control – edging/stability, capsize prevention – bracing, moving sideways – draws & sculling, safety rescues, efficient forward stroke, turns.
Required equipment includes a pfd (life jacket), paddle, and a sit-in kayak with stern and bow bulkheads. Also required is a spray skirt, bilge pump, and a paddle float.
Participants must be at least 14 years old and meet the ACA eligibility requirements (http://www.americancanoe.org/default.asp?page=EEC)
